How to Write Instagram Captions: A Professional Copywriter’s Caption Tips!

Chances are, you’re a business owner wondering how to write Instagram captions that aren’t boring, sound like you, & convert your followers into clients!!

(That’s the dream, right?)

I’ve compiled a ton of my Instagram caption writing tips into My Unbreakable Formula for Engaging, Creative, & Intentional Captions

The BEST way to get all the info I have is to buy my Mini Workbook: Caption Writing 101 - but here’s a sneak peek into the process!!

1. Start with a hook

You only have the first 125 characters to make them click “more” so make that space count!

Ask a question, invoke emotion, or give advice.

2. Include a CTA (call to action).

Some examples you can use:

Comment below if….

Tag someone who….

  • reminds you of this

  • needs to see this

  • would enjoy this

Save this…

  • to come back to it later!

  • so you don’t forget

Bonus Instagram Caption Writing Tip: Include the “Save this” CTA near the top of the caption so they don’t have to scroll back up to the “save” button.

3. Offer value

What makes you an expert on this topic? Why should they trust you as their guide? What sets you apart from others in your field?

Show them why they should purchase your product or service.

4. Know your brand voice

Be personable & genuine - your personality is your brand! Let your personality shine. Don’t stress about coming off as perfect. If you’re not authentic, it will show.

Ask yourself: Is my brand clear through this post?

5. Check for typos & errors

While I don’t want you to stress about perfection, I do want you to put your best foot forward. Typos & errors make things wordy or confusing. Make sure your caption is easy to read.

Not necessarily caption-related, but I had to throw it in here….

6. Plan ahead

Batch your content to save time & prevent scrambling. This way you can appropriately plan for any launches! You can also spend time researching the best hashtags so your post shows up to your ideal client. Make your marketing efforts seamless by scheduling your posts. This way, you can make sure they’re posted when most of your audience is online. I will always and forever recommend Preview for your scheduling needs!

There you go! My clients always ask, “How can I get people to comment on my posts?” and this is what I tell them. I hope you find it helpful. Now go write!!

XOXO,

Beth
