Repurposing content is one of the best tricks for busy small business owners! Why put your heart and soul into creating content that will be used once, never to be seen again? That’s where repurposing comes in!

Give my episode a listen on the She Calls Her Shots podcast right here on Spotify!! I had a great time talking about this topic with Krista. Thanks for having me on!!

(If you don’t have Spotify, search “She Calls Her Shots” on Apple, & scroll down to August where you’ll see my name!)

Work smarter not harder, am I right??

When I talk about repurposing your content I don’t mean reposting the exact same things on the exact same platforms over and over again– that wouldn’t be the best way to serve your audience LOL.

So, let’s talk about exactly how to repurpose content effectively to save you time & energy!

FIRST STEP: Find your brand pillars

What do you wanna post about?

For me, that’s email marketing, website writing, personal life, & brand strategy sessions. Once you identify what your “things” are you’ll be able to separate your content ideas super easily!

SECOND STEP: Come up with content ideas under each pillar

… Or if you already have a running list of ideas, organize them into pillars!

Whatever ideas you have for Instagram or blogs or emails write them ALL out under your brand pillar categories.

THIRD STEP: Break it down

Take your idea: ie; “what to wear to an engagement session” & break that down as much as possible. Brain dump EVERYTHING you know about how to help someone choose engagement session outfits. Zoom into each piece.

FOURTH STEP: Rewrite it

Pick an idea from your lists & run with it!

There are SO many ways you can rewrite that idea for different platforms.

Examples on how to use your content idea in tons of ways:

  1. Use it as a blog post to gain traction with new clients who are recently engaged + googling that question.

  2. Give even more value with a freebie that the blog post leads to.

(Then you can break that down into an email sequence selling your wedding packages ;)

  3. Then you can use bits and pieces in your Instagram captions

For instance, you could break down your original content idea like this:

    • “what to wear to an engagement session” reel

    • a carousel post that says “swipe to see some INSPO for your couples session!”

    • “here are my three tips, go to my blog to learn more” (then you have people visiting your website & seeing the prompt to join your email list!)

  4. Pair one or all of those post ideas with a TikTok trend to grow on another platform

  5.  Send those tips out  (& others like it) to those who are already on your email list that didn’t get there by downloading the freebie

  6. Write a podcast script + record an episode on that topic.

  7. Run that podcast script thru a transcription program, do minor edits & BAM: you have a blog post!!

You can use this process with ANY piece of content, starting at any point.

If you don’t yet have a blog or an email list, still brain dump about your content idea. Break it down & make it appropriate for that platform.

Your post on Instagram will be different than your reel will be different than your TikTok– which is the beauty of repurposing!!

Ie; If you're turning an Insta caption into a reel, you have to keep it short & to the point! But if you're recycling it into a blog post you'll need to go into a lot more depth & optimize your writing for the search engine!

Which type of content should I prioritize?

You don’t need to focus on every single type of content.

Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, podcasting, email marketing, blogging…. It can be overwhelming. It’s a lot!

It gets easier with this content recycling process, but it’s important to prioritize what platforms are most important to you!

Four questions to decide which type of content to focus on:

  • Where is your ideal client hanging out?

  • What is the MOST FUN to you? What lights you up inside?

  • How long will this content live?

    • Instagram posts only live about 48 hours on your audience's feed, but a TikTok can last a couple of weeks. And a blog or podcast lives on FOREVER.

  • What’s the ROI?

    • Count the time it takes you, not just the money. (Email marketing has a HIGH return on investment rate of $36 for every $1 you spend)

Especially when you’re starting out building your brand & establishing your business, you don’t wanna waste time.

It’s important to build your business on workflows that are efficient & sustainable.
